Maddington Central Social Media Comment Moderation Policy

Maddington Central’s social media channels exist to keep our community informed, supported and connected. We welcome conversation, feedback and positive community engagement. To keep these channels safe and respectful for everyone, we moderate all comments in line with the following policy.

  1. Purpose

This policy outlines how comments and messages on Maddington Central’s social media pages will be monitored, moderated and managed.
Our goal is to maintain a respectful, inclusive environment for all Western Australian community members.

  1. Moderation Approach

We review comments regularly and take action where content breaches this policy.
Actions may include hiding, deleting or reporting comments, and where necessary, blocking users.

We do not edit comments. We also do not tolerate harassment or discrimination.

  1. What Will Be Removed

Comments will be hidden or deleted if they include any of the following:

  1. Discrimination or Hate Speech

Content targeting individuals or groups based on:

  • Race or ethnicity
  • Religion or belief
  • Gender or gender identity
  • Sexual orientation
  • Disability
  • Age
  • Nationality

This includes slurs, stereotypes, derogatory remarks or inflammatory language.

  1. Harassment or Abuse

Comments that involve:

  • Personal attacks
  • Bullying
  • Threats
  • Name-calling
  • Aggressive or intimidating behaviour
  1. Inflammatory or Divisive Content

This includes:

  • Political or religious arguments
  • Content designed to provoke or escalate conflict
  • Misleading statements intended to create hostility
  1. Offensive Language

Including profanity, obscene expressions or sexual content.

  1. Misinformation

False or misleading claims about:

  • Centre operations
  • Events or promotions
  • Safety issues
  • Emergency situations
  1. Spam or Irrelevant Content

Including:

  • Advertising
  • Repetitive comments
  • External promotions
  • Links to third-party sites not affiliated with the centre
  1. Privacy Breaches

Including:

  • Naming staff members without consent
  • Posting private information about individuals
  • Sharing photos of others without permission
  1. When Users May Be Blocked

A user may be blocked if they:

  • Repeatedly breach this policy
  • Post hate speech or extreme content
  • Harass staff or other community members
  • Create fake profiles to continue posting

Blocking is used in cases where behaviour is ongoing or severe.

  1. Engagement Principles

We aim to:

  • Respond to genuine enquiries as promptly as possible
  • Provide factual information
  • Redirect complex issues to private messages or formal channels
  • Maintain neutrality on political, religious or controversial topics

If a conversation becomes unproductive or hostile, we may choose not to engage further.

  1. Reporting

Comments that suggest criminal activity, threats to safety, or urgent welfare concerns may be reported to the appropriate authorities.

This policy may be updated at any time to ensure it remains appropriate, effective and aligned with community expectations.
